Defective GM Power Steering Systems Can Cause Serious Injuries

Power Steering systems on certain General Motors car can fail causing serious injuries. On February 14th, General Motors Co. recalled 81,123 cars due to concerns about their electric power steering systems. This recall is an expansion of a 2014 recall of approximately 1.3 million vehicles for similar steering defects. This most recent recall applies to the 2006 and 2007 Chevrolet Malibu, Malibu Maxx, and Pontiac G6 models. General Motors has admitted that the power steering systems of these models could suddenly fail, making the vehicles difficult to turn. According to the official General Motors recall posted filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the defect in the steering “could occur at any time while driving.”

According to General Motors, if the power steering assist is lost or malfunctions, “a message is displayed on the Driver information Center and a chime sounds to inform the driver.” To rectify the defect, according to GM, dealerships will replace the torque sensor assembly, and GM will reimburse owners for the repairs.
