Do You Deserve Compensation for Injuries Resulting from Your DePuy Metal-on-Metal Hip Implant?

Our Boston attorneys have the experience and courtroom skills needed to help you get the compensation you deserve

In 2005, DePuy Orthopaedics, a division of Johnson & Johnson, first introduced its ASR XL Acetabular System and ASR Hip Resurfacing System in the United States. It wasn’t until August 2010 that DePuy announced a product recall for both devices, following a United Kingdom registry report of high rates of failure in the devices. More than 90,000 patients worldwide have received these implants, and as many as 13 percent may require revision surgery within five years. More recent studies put that estimate as high as 41 percent.

At Swartz & Lynch LLP in Boston, our attorneys hold makers of defective products, including DePuy and Stryker, accountable for their negligence. Through a medical products liability lawsuit, we obtain the highest possible compensation for our clients. Massachusetts personal injury claims like these are taken on contingency fee basis, which means that you owe our firm nothing unless we win your case.

Problems associated with DePuy’s metal-on-metal hip replacement devices

DePuy’s products liability stems from the design of its hip and knee replacement implants. As explained in an Food and Drug Administration (FDA) paper, friction between the metal ball and metal cup of these types of hip implants cause metal particles to wear off and settle in the space around the implant. Some of these metal ions, specifically cobalt and chromium, can enter the bloodstream. Over time, this can lead to an adverse reaction, ultimately leading to:

  • Extensive bone damage
  • Extensive muscle damage
  • Extensive nerve damage
  • The need for a second procedure called revision surgery

Let us help you get full and fair compensation for any harm caused by your DePuy implant
